The Last 2 Weeks.................................

This week has been a great success with 2 steady endurance swims and 7 bike sessions. Riding to and from work, mixed up with a double swim/bike session yesterday I have now turned my focus to the indoor turbo trainer. Over the next 2 weeks I will look to complete a solid 12 hour session on the turbo aimed at dealing with boredom and riding around 200 miles in one session............The last 2 weeks of preparation are designed to be tough!! Statistics for last week over 12 kilometrers in the pool in a wet suit combined with over 200 miles of cycling...............

4 Weeks To Self Destruction!!

Tomorrow will bring the final 3 weels of intense training and a switch in approach. This week has been a pretty steady affair with over 200 miles on the bike mixed up with endurance swims in the pool! Tonight I will complete the weeks training with a 2 hour ride in pretty poor conditions. Tomorrow morning I will be up at 0545 ready for session 1 of a tough week, a 6km pool swim followed by 2 bike sessions. A triple session tomorrow will be spread over 19 hours, 50 miles riding to work followed by a 20 mile ride home. The day will see me train for approximately 6 hours. This is going to be a good week......................The excitement and anticipation grows towards Sunday 21st October - DECA DAY..................................

4 Weeks Of Preparation Left..............

The final frontier with 4 weeks of training left to go I am mentally ready to do battle. Excitement has set in and I am now finalising my endurance preparation!!
Last week was again full of swim endurance with 12 kms of pool endurance work in a wetsuit, training exactly as I will race in Mexico. Another 7 sessions on the bike it was designed to be an easy week before I raise the bar yet further this week. Tomorrow will see me complete 8 hours in the saddle starting at 6am and finishing at 2pm. The aim this week is to keep hitting the pool and to smash the bike mileage......................I am ready to go..............Now I am applying the finishing touches.................Bring it on................

The Best Week By Far............

With only 5 weeks training left this week has been an absolute delight! Approaching 20 hours of training, over 300 miles on the bike, a solid endurance swim and run things are falling into place nicely. Yesterdays ride has to be the highlight of the week, 6 hours of pure endurance, it started in the blazing sunshine, as the sun sank in pure red skies the deer appeared, moving silently and majestically across sun baked fields. It finished in complete darkness at 9.30pm but it was well worth what was a near perfect endurance ride. Average HR only 115 BPM it was a relaxed as it gets.
The plan next week is to increase the endurance element with a good solid 8 hour ride, another strong swim and run and to keep building throughout September....................It just gets better and better.....

Perfect Preparation So Far...............

10 Rides in the last 5 days has laid the perfect foundation this week to switch disciplines. Having been commuting to and from work at all times of day yesterdays training was completed in the early morning pitch darkness at 0215 hours. It was surprisingly cold this morning..................
200 miles of riding completed tomorrow will see me complete a 6 hour endurance swim before running long on saturday evening. It has been a fantastic week, without doubt the best but the question remains, "Just how do you train for a DECA" This year is the 1st year as a "World Cup Ultra Triathlon" so it adds a bit of spice! As the race gets closer I become more motivated to push hard. It is now really getting exciting...................I am ready to go to war....................

September Suffering.......................

This is the month that will determine my condition in Mexico. It is time to rip myself apart, suffer voluntary pain and piece myself together in October. After a short break last week today is the start of my final 6 weeks of preparation. 3 training sessions today kicked off with a 4500 metre pool swim at 6.30am this morning. At 1pm I will be on the bike before my final bike session at 11pm tonight. It will result in 3 sessions in 18 hours, pretty standard for a monday! Tomorrow & Wednesday will involve 2 bike sessions each day before an ultra endurance bike session on thursday and a 6 hour+ swim on friday. Then the weekend arrives.................its time to suffer........................big time........
