The Week Ahead!!

Having completed 5 bike sessions already this week and 130 miles of training tomorrow is a big endurance swim day. 5 Hours of endurance swim training in Cambridge open air lido where I will practice my eating and drinking routine and I have already decided that if after 5 hours I am feeling strong I will pussh on for a 6 hour session. This will be my longest swim session and will allow me to focus on shorter faster 2 hour swims. I am content with the bike and feel very comfortable so I will look to pencil in a few marathon+ runs. I am in great shape and itching to race.........DECA is coming home.................

End Of A Great Week!!

It has been an absolutely fabulous week in glorious weather. The focus is now on long steady sessions to build up endurance to a new level. Friday was all about swimming with hours of repeated lane swimming in an open air lido to start replicating the Deca swim phase. Yesterday was a double bike session that involved an early morning session starting at 6am, a break for lunch followed by more hot weather mileage in the afternoon. This was the first real mileage week so now it will be used as a foundation on which to build over the weeks ahead. Each week will now have a dedicated swim and bike day!! Things are certainly interesting and the main thing is that I am still enjoying it....................The Deca Dream remains alive..................................

The Calm Before The Storm!!

This week is a very important one in terms of development. With 8 weeks to go tomorrow and saturday are pure endurance assessment days. Steady training so far this week I am now ready to smash myself apart. Tomorrow I will rise at 5am and be in the water for the start of a 6 hour marathon swim session. This will be a good indicator of my current swim fitness level. On saturday I will be out on the road at 6am for a mammoth 12 hour endurance ride. The plan now is to go long for 8 weeks of super endurance training so read with interest how much mileage is covered in each session..................Things are about to get serious and believe me I AM READY.................Live it.....

The Final Countdown!!

Having now entered the final phase of training there are now only 8 weeks of preparation left before the self destruct button is pressed. Yesterday was day 1 of an intense programme where I felt very strong in both the swim and out on the bike. This week is all about serious overload.
Today is a straight forward 50 mile bike at a comfortable pace focusing on time in the seat. Yesterdays ride saw me elevate my heart rate into the 170 BPM region that saw me stepping close to maximum effort. This is an assessment week where I will test my level of endurance as the weekend approaches. I will know by the end of this week how to guage the final phase!

Back To Business...............

After a week away at the olympics where I could only squeeze in a couple of swims and runs it was back to business this weekend with 2 decent rides. The plan is to overload big time next week with multiple long swims, rides and a long endurance run! Tomorrow is a planned 2 hour endurance swim folowed by a 2 hour tempo ride. These will be the shortest sessions of the week as I build towards a 6 hour swim on friday and a 12 hour ride on saturday. This is going to be a very heavy week.................

Gaining Momentum!!

Everything is coming together nicely just at the right time so plenty to report. Pete Golding confirmed as support crew and we will be flying out to Monterrey together. I couldn't ask for a better right hand man!! Training is going brilliantly with both swimming and cycling developing perfectly. This week over 9000 metres of swimming completed and some brisk rides. Today was a double header starting at 0630 hrs with a nice 6km swim followed by a steady 50 mile ride in 2 hours 35 minutes in sunny windy conditions, it has been a very good day. Tomorrow morning up at 6am for an early mnorning ride, sunday's endurance run will complete a great week...........Deca is coming........
